The UAE Banks Federation (UBF) has unveiled full speaker line-up and program agenda of the Regulatory Compliance in a Changing World forum set to be held on 27 June in Abu Dhabi UAE. World-class speakers and acclaimed industry experts will lead thought-provoking panels and sessions to explore the recent developments in regulation and compliance key regulatory concerns, effective ways to deal with financial crimes as well as how technology can support regulatory implementation at the forum.<\/p>\n
Organized by UBF\u2019s Compliance Committee in association with Al-Iktissad-Wal-Aamal Co., a leading event organizer in the region, the forum will feature four stimulating panel discussions, a live stage interview, a presentation as well as networking sessions.
\nThe one-day conference will see participation from the Central Bank of the UAE, leading banks, financial services and fintech companies and legal rating and consultancy firms.<\/p>\n
In a world where new technologies continue to disrupt every aspect of economies the banking industry is faced with a number of challenges pertaining to regulation and compliance.
\nWhile technological advancement brings with them opportunities risk landscape continues to expand alongside posing threat to a safe and robust banking system.
\nGiven these critical developments UBF\u2019s first-ever conference on regulatory compliance is attracting the attention of different players in the banking and financial services industry.

The conference will feature a welcome speech by Hanan Mansour Chairperson of UBF compliance committee and Head of Compliance FAB followed by a panel discussion themed Financial Crime Trends and FATF Role in Preventing Criminal Abuse of the Financial System will review financial crimes reported in 2017 and examine the role of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in combatting financial crimes. Michael Dawson Managing Director and CEO Promontory Asia Promontory Financial Group USA and other key speakers will shed light on the internationally-endorsed global standards against money laundering, terrorist financing and the financing of proliferation.<\/p>\n
In addition the panel will highlight the growing importance of strengthening measures to tackle money laundering and terrorist financing and the need for continuous assessments and mutual evaluations.<\/p>\n
A live stage interview titled Living in the age of De-Risking will follow the first panel.<\/p>\n
The interview will explore global financial institutions perspectives on de-risking and the impact of de-risking on the region\u2019s banking industry.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the second panel, titled Aligning Local Regulatory Frameworks with the Global Regulations James Obrien Head of Regulatory Development Central Bank of the UAE and Waheed Rathore Chief Compliance Officer ADCB among other key international speakers will offer their insights on governments\u2019 role in creating the regulatory framework and the strategic impact of global regulation.<\/p>\n
The panel will also discuss the pioneering regulatory landscape in the UAE and its effects on the region\u2019s banking sector.<\/p>\n
Third panel discussion, titled Trust, KYC and Compliance in the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Era\u2019 will feature Victor Matafonov, Chief Compliance Officer, Emirates NBD; Thomas Hirschi, Executive Director Regulatory Authority, ADGM; and Ayman Ajaj, Chief Information Officer, BNP Paribas MEA, among other speakers from the region, who will explore regulatory developments, challenges and risks followed the advent of digitization in the banking sector.<\/p>\n
The panel will also shine a light a light on opportunities as well as regulatory challenges and risks presented by rising trend of cryptocurrencies, and industry developments concerning blockchain.
\nAnother panel will discuss how the regtech and fintech revolution is forcing changes in regulation and compliance in the banking industry and how public-private partnership helped in the establishment of anti-money laundering (AML) counter-terrorism financing (CTF) Intelligence Sharing Platform in the UAE.<\/p>\n
The seasoned speakers will also examine how machine learning is changing the future of compliance, fraud detection, and risk assessments. In addition, the panel will also put the spotlight on the ever-evolving risk of cyber attacks and data manipulation.<\/p>\n
The forum will conclude with a presentation on \u2018Conduct Business in Banks\u2019 by Bassant Khalil, Regional and UAE Head of Regulatory Compliance, HSBC.
